When trying to click links on Linux, it's not uncommon for the cursor to slide barely off the link when thumb attempts to tap. Why?

Orient thumb sideways, slowly drag left across touchpad

macOS: nothing

Linux: moves over ~3% of screen

Drag same sideways thumb back to the right, about 2x speed, afterwards

macOS: nothing

Linux: darts back right further than the original left movement

link Edge issues

Place finger halfway between being on touchpad and outside of it, then drag inward

macOS: cursor begins movement after finger is fully within touchpad area

Linux: cursor never begins moving
