Setting up a SAML application for Enterprise in Okta

If you've been following our guide to setting up SAML on your GitClear Enterprise instance , you may find yourself needing to set up an application in Okta to link GitClear to. This guide outlines the steps necessary to getting this working.

First, from the Okta menu, select "Applications" under the Applications submenu:

From there, select "Create App integration":

From the menu that pops up, select "SAML 2.0" and click Next:

From there, fill out an app name, and click next. The exact name of the app doesn't matter:

From the menu that appears, fill out the SSO URL and the Audience URL. These will be https://gitclear.yourcompany.com/users/auth/saml for the former and https://gitclear.yourcompany.com/gitclear-enterprise for the latter. Then click Next, further down the form:

From the subsequent menu, select "I'm a software vendor. I'd like to integrate my app with Okta," then click Finish.

You'll be presented with some basic app info for signing on to your app - you'll want to scroll down to "View SAML setup instructions" and click that.

You'll receive a set of values for setting up SAML with GitClear in our SAML set-up menu, including XML metadata you can paste into GitClear to fill out values automatically. See our setup instructions .

Note that it may provide you with meta-data that doesn't provide a sign-out target URL. If this is the case, this value isn't necessary - you can stub it out with a generic URL like https://gitclear.yourcompany.com/.

Note that, to ensure that your Okta account has proper permissions to sign on in GitClear, you'll need to check the Assignments tab and ensure that the proper user / group is present there. In most cases, this will be initially blank:
